This dial has Roman VI and IX in gold, set with 24 diamonds, and hour markers set in gold with 32 diamonds. Turquoise, which is rare on Earth, has been valued for thousands of years due to its unique color. Because turquoise goes so well with yellow and white gold, Rolex chose it for its distinctive, uncommon blue color and elegant structure. It is only applicable to Day-Date 36 gold or platinum models.

The Oyster bezel’s fluting originally served a practical purpose, allowing the bezel to be screwed into the watch case and assisting in ensuring the watch’s waterproofness. Thus, it was the same as the fluting on the case back, which was likewise secured to the case with special Rolex tools in order to make it waterproof.
