Limitless freedom
Lacquer offers nearly infinite color options along with intensity and a silky finish. Six thin layers of lacquer are applied one after the other on a brass base plate using the lacquering process. After that, a colorless varnish is used to add all of the depth and luster to the color or shade. After the varnish dries, the dial’s surface is polished to bring out the color; at this point, it is prepared for pad printing and applique application.

One way to identify yourself is with a Rolex fluted bezel. The Oyster bezel’s fluting originally served a practical purpose, allowing the bezel to be screwed into the watch case and assisting in ensuring the watch’s waterproofness. Thus, it was the same as the fluting on the case back, which was likewise secured to the case with special Rolex tools in order to make it waterproof. With time, the fluting evolved into a defining visual component and authentic Rolex trademark. The Datewatch 41’s gold fluted bezel is a symbol of distinction today.
