The Oyster Perpetual Datejust 36 is a watch with a white dial and a Jubilee bracelet made of Oystersteel and Everose gold. The fluted bezel, a Rolex signature, was originally functional for waterproofing. The dial is lacquered with six layers of lacquer, then varnished and polished for depth and shine. Lacquer offers a flawless finish, intense color, and nearly infinite color freedom. The lacquering process involves applying six thin layers of lacquer to a metal base plate one after the other. The color or shade is then given all of its depth and luster by applying a colorless varnish. The dial is prepared for pad printing and applique application after the varnish has dried and its surface has been polished to bring out the color.

One way to identify yourself is with a Rolex fluted bezel. The Oyster bezel’s fluting originally served a practical purpose, allowing the bezel to be screwed into the watch case and assisting in ensuring the watch’s waterproofness. Thus, it was the same as the fluting on the case back, which was likewise secured to the case with special Rolex tools in order to make it waterproof. With time, the fluting evolved into a defining visual component and authentic Rolex trademark. The Datewatch 41’s gold fluted bezel is a symbol of distinction today.
