A watchmaking technique
Several of the Oyster Perpetual collection’s dials have subtle light reflections produced by the sunray coating. It is achieved by applying expert brushing techniques that result in grooves radiating from the dial’s center. Each engraving has a constant diffusion of light, giving rise to a distinctive, gentle glow that shifts with the wrist position. After the sunray finish is finished, electroplating or physical vapour deposition are used to apply the dial color. The final touch to the dial is a thin layer of varnish.

One way to identify yourself is with a Rolex fluted bezel. The Oyster bezel’s fluting originally served a practical purpose, allowing the bezel to be screwed into the watch case and assisting in ensuring the watch’s waterproofness. Thus, it was the same as the fluting on the case back, which was likewise secured to the case with special Rolex tools in order to make it waterproof. With time, the fluting evolved into a defining visual component and authentic Rolex trademark. The Datewatch 41’s gold fluted bezel is a symbol of distinction today.
